Welcome back, my fellow film lovers! Throughout the filming industry, many talented and creative actors and actresses have portrayed many of the characters we know and love today in the movie world. In this blog post, I will discuss the story behind one of America’s most famous and well-known actors, Tom Hanks.

Tom Hanks’ Early Life and Career-

Tom Hanks was born in Concord, California, on July 9, 1956. Hanks faced a very unhealthy and broken childhood due to the divorce of his parents. This led him to grow, constantly moving from home to home. By the time he was in high school, he had developed a strong passion for acting, studying theater at Chabot College and California State University in Sacramento. After a while, he decided to become an intern at the Great Lakes Theater Festival in Cleveland, Ohio. This internship allowed him to gain knowledge of theater production, such as lighting and set designs. 

In the late 1970s, he moved to New York to begin his acting career, starting with getting television roles. His first role was in a sitcom called “Bosom Buddies,” which lasted for two seasons. This role was very special as he met his now wife within this series. Later, he acted in his first film, “He Knows You’re Alone,” which was categorized as a teen-slasher movie. After these first two significant roles, he began to audition for more films and acted with other actors and actresses that are still well-known today. Over the years, Hanks has continued to act in live-action movies but has also stumbled across working with animation, leading to his successful career and winning awards. 

What were his well-known films and why were they successful? – 

One of Hanks’ most successful films is 1994’s Forrest Gump. This film was successful due to its heartwarming story, led by Hanks’ flawless portrayal of the character’s vulnerability and morality. His performance caused the audience to feel a sense of an emotional cry and laugh. The film’s relatable story resonated with the audience, giving an immense amount of credit to Hanks’ character’s heroic journey. This film’s opening weekend box office was $24 million, growing up to $330 million domestically. It earned several Academy Awards for Hanks’ great work, such as Best Picture and Best Actor. 

Hanks’ second successful film is 1998’s Saving Private Ryan. This film gained popularity through Hanks’ outstanding performance of captivating the war story. His character, Captain Miller, was portrayed with great emotion towards how the war impacted his life, especially in the combat scene of D-Day. This film’s opening weekend box office was $30 million, leading up to $482 million worldwide. It earned a series of awards, one of which was given to Hanks for Best Actor in different categories.

A third successful film of Hanks’ time is 2019’s Toy Story 4. As Hanks has played a significant role in the Toy Story franchise as Sheriff Woody, this film has become one of the highest-grossing films. His vocal representation of the character creates a charismatic and endearing presence for Woody, exploring the emotions faced in the film. Hanks has developed a nostalgic and memorable voice that no child would ever forget, as his character brings joy to all. This film’s opening weekend box office was $120 million and exceeded up to $244.5 million worldwide, winning several awards.

He has received several awards, majority of which are for being the best actor of his films. His legacy continues to grow as his work brings great joy and tears to his fans and audiences.
